Why use WordPress?

Why use WordPress for my website? When I have started blogs in the past it has always been a very haphazard affair. I never put much thought or planning into them, and that is why I ended up abandoning my first two websites. This time around I wanted to make sure my blog will be here for the long haul. I want it to be something that can adapt and grow as I do. I have chosen to use WordPress for the following five main reasons:

Flexibility

WordPress is by far the most flexible platform around. This is largely because the WordPress.org version that I am using is free and open-source (more on that later). There is a different version, WordPress.com, that is not open-source. This gives you less control over your content, and I have learned from my previous mistakes. This time around I have chosen the version that is right for me at the very start.

Simplicity

WordPress is very easy to use, and you don’t need to be a computer whizz-kid to use it. Trust me on this, I am not an IT geek. If I can teach myself to use it so can you! It is very user friendly and intuitive, because it has been designed to be that way. That’s why a large percentage of the world’s websites are built using it. If you are looking for a simple and straightforward way to build your blog or website then WordPress will be ideal for you.

Enhancements

It’s very powerful because of the number of different ways you can enhance your site using plug-ins. These are bits of software which you can install to add extra features that you want, like an online shop. Once again, this is very easy to do, so don’t worry if you’re not very tech savvy.

Designs

You can also change the look and feel of your site by choosing a from a wide range of ready-made designs, known as themes. If you aren’t ready for this yet that’s fine, as WordPress will come with a default theme as standard, which you can change at a later date.

Affordability

WordPress has loads of free themes and plug-ins, so you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get up and running. All you really need to pay for to get started are a web host and a domain. Make sure you read my next few posts to find out my suggestions for these!

I have decided to set up a blog, and to document my adventures in life through it.
