Why should I tell my story?

Why should I tell my story? I absolutely love this TED talk by Dominic Colenso about the power of telling our story. It is something I truly believe in, and try to practice in my day to day life.

From an early age we listen to stories that teach us valuable lessons. Our hormones respond to storytelling with hormones that build connection.

Dominic suggests we embrace our own story and share more of it with the world. Most of us dismiss our story as irrelevant, embarrassing or uninteresting, but they are vital in helping people understand us. Without our personal experiences our story becomes bland and dull, and we lose our sense of identity.

Sharing things about ourself helps us connect to our audience. It is an act of vulnerability, but with it comes power. Invisibility and anonymity are not an option in the digital age. As soon as a story has been told, its power multiplies, and it has momentum.

Stories allow us to not only document our experiences, but to imagine and create our future. Dominic suggests we reveal something of our past, explain how it relates to our present, and give a glimpse of our future. It’s a tip I will definitely use going forward!

Project 365

I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.

I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.

The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 209 days to go!

I have decided to set up a blog, and to document my adventures in life through it.
