Why should I practice mindfulness?

Why should I practice mindfulness? It’s a very stressful time for everybody at the moment. I have had to stop myself watching the news because I find it so overwhelming. I have taken a bit of control back, and I only visit news pages on the internet when I am specifically looking for something, and only for short amounts of time.

Stress

I have noticed that my stress levels are really heightened at the moment, causing me to get myself overly wound up and emotional. As a treat to myself, I have purchased a self-guided eight week mindfulness course that was recommended by Jayne on the recent mindfulness sessions I have been attending.

Procrastination

I have found these sessions to be amazingly rewarding, but was struggling to manage to find the time to fit regular mindfulness sessions into my routine. Having reflected on the reasons why this might be, I have realised that I was making excuses and procrastinating. Ten minutes a day for eight weeks is all that is needed for a habit to become embedded. Regular mindfulness has been proven to have significant benefits for physical and mental health. I have therefore decided to change my mindset, and take action to make positive changes in my life.

Commitment

I like having the structure of having a teacher to guide me through the process of making mindfulness a regular part of my life. I don’t feel confident in doing it alone, and would like a bit of hand-holding to begin with. I feel ready to make the commitment to regular practice, so today I looked up the e-book on Amazon, having decided I am willing to pay for the support of an expert.

Action

I’m delighted to say that this investment in my future happiness has cost me the grand total of £4.99. I actually can’t believe it, and I can’t wait to get started! For anyone who feels inspired to join me, the title is Mindfulness – a practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world, by Mark Williams and Danny Penman. I’ll let you know how I get on!

Project 365

I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.

I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.

The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 348 days to go!

Why not check in on a regular basis to see how I am progressing, and what I have discovered?

I have decided to set up a blog, and to document my adventures in life through it.
