Why is trust important?

Why is trust important? I have just watched this amazing TED talk by Dan Ariely about why trust is important, and how we can increase it.

Trust is a common good which allows society to work well. Without trust everything is incredibly difficult. If everybody contributes, the public good increases and everybody benefits. However, if someone betrays the public good then people stop contributing and it becomes very hard to improve the situation.

Dan looks at ways to increase trust:

1 – Build long-term relationships to increase social interactions and reciprocity

2 – Increasing reputation leads to increased trust

3 – Revenge can be a form of altruism to stop people acting badly in future

4 – Demonstrate aligned interests by sacrificing your own utility

5 – Sharing embarrassing stories can be a great way to build trust!

Project 365

I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.

I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.

The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 193 days to go!

I have decided to set up a blog, and to document my adventures in life through it.
