What are the stages of personal development?

What are the stages of personal development? I have just watched this brilliant TED talk by Alan Watkins on the stages we go through in personal development. Alan splits these into 12 steps. The first three steps involve discovery, moving from the known world through to a call to adventure, and resistance to change.

The next three steps involve decision, when we start to overcome the resistance and decide to commit. We cross a threshold from the old us to the new us. It requires taking ownership for our lives. We also need to manage our energy effectively as we prepare for change.

The following three steps involve development, which begin with trials and tribulations as we learn about ourself, followed by applying the learning. We then need to do deeper work to look at our limiting patterns, allowing us to change. Lastly, we have to embody the change, and live the transformation.

And the last three involve delivery, which begins by our return to the known world, able to perform at a higher level. In doing so we are able to inspire others, and help them to start their own process of development.

These 12 steps describe the journey of our life, and we can go round the cycle many times to improve different aspects of our lives, speeding it up each time. This allows us the opportunity to develop further than we realise is possible, and reach our true potential!

Project 365

I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.

I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.

The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 288 days to go!

I have decided to set up a blog, and to document my adventures in life through it.
