What are the benefits of sleep?
What are the benefits of sleep? I have just watched this brilliant TED talk by Dr. Matthew Carter about the importance of getting a good night’s sleep. He discusses how it can help us improve our productivity, and the damage that sleep deprivation can do.
While we sleep our pituitary gland produces more growth hormone, causing muscle and bone growth and fat metabolism. Our immune system is also more active against viruses and bacteria while we are sleeping, helping to ward off or cure infection. Sleep deprivation is also a risk factor for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, anxiety and depression.
When we develop habits to get a regular amount of sleep on a consistent basis, we feel energised, and are more productive. Avoiding screen usage during our bedtime routine can be very helpful, as it reduces our dopamine levels. We can also take advantage of the times of the day where we are most productive, so we can achieve more with our lives.
Project 365
I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.
I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.
The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 248 days to go!
