How can we take control of our emotions?

How can we take control of our emotions? I have just watched a brilliant TED talk by Alan Watkins, in which he explains how we develop to understand our physical self, our emotional self, our conceptual self or identity, and then concrete self or consciousness.

As we grow, we learn to follow the rules set by our parents, and then society. But these rules don’t make us happy. Some of us are lucky enough to have the revelation that the real problem lies within ourselves, so it cannot be resolved by external solutions.

Alan suggests we look within, to explore our emotional experience, and realise that other people are not responsible for our unhappiness. We create our emotions, and once we take ownership for that, we can start to control our emotional state.

Firstly, we need to be aware of our emotions, and then learn to recognise if they are actually benefiting us. We can choose to move to a more helpful emotional state. Once we can do this, it will help change our lives for the better.

Project 365

I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.

I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.

The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 295 days to go!

I have decided to set up a blog, and to document my adventures in life through it.
