How can I use body language to understand people?
How can I use body language to understand people? I love this TED talk by Lynne Franklin about how we can read people’s body language to understand other people and help us build rapport.
Lynne explains that people think in different ways. 75% are lookers, who mainly think in pictures and images. They use lots of eye contact, and use words that have a visual component to them.
20% are listeners, who mainly think in words and sounds. They talk to themselves, and use auditory words. A lot of eye contact freaks them out.
5% are touchers, who mainly think in feelings and tactilely. They like to hug people or touch your arm when in conversation, and use feeling or tactile words.
Once we have worked out our own style, we need to be careful not to treat everyone else as if they thing the same way as we do. If we pay attention to other people’s body language we can work out their preferred style, and then use that to communicate with them.
Project 365
I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.
I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.
The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 226 days to go!
