How can I unlock my inner creativity?

How can I unlock my inner creativity? I love this TED talk by Don Dodge, in which he discusses how we can unlock our inner creativity. Don works at Google, and he explains that they aim to make things that are ten times better, which uses a different way of thinking. The biggest thing that gets in the way of our success is our fear of failure. It suppresses our creativity.

Don reminds us of a Winston Churchill quote “success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts”. It’s important not to get complacent about success, but to keep moving forward.

As children, we are taught to conform, which reduces our natural creativity. We create filters to stop creativity. He also talks about sensory overload, and how we learn to say no. We create filters to stop overstimulation. In doing so, we stop being good at saying yes to things.

We use pattern recognition all the time to decide whether or not to interact with people, and we have become very good at it.

We need to start thinking differently about failure. We need to accept a degree of failure along the way. The important thing is not to make the same mistake twice.

In addition, we need to allow ourselves to dream. Not just at night, but while we are awake too. We need to learn to say yes to opportunities, because that will open other doors for us.

Project 365

I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.

I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.

The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 238 days to go!

I have decided to set up a blog, and to document my adventures in life through it.
