How can I improve my presentations?

How can I improve my presentations? I absolutely love this TED talk by David JP Phillips about how to avoid causing death by PowerPoint. After watching this, I realise that I am definitely guilty of lots of the issues David talks about.

In order to help people remember the information from our slides, we need to bear in mind that our working memory is quite poor. David uses five design principles to help us psychologically optimise our content.

1 – One message per slide

2 – Don’t have sentences on slides at the same time as speaking

3 – Your eyes focus on movement, signalling colours, contrast-rich objects, and large objects, so make the most important information the largest

4 – Make good use of contrast, and consider a dark background

5 – Have a maximum of six items per slide

I will definitely put these tips into action for my next presentation!

Project 365

I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.

I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.

The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 227 days to go!

I have decided to set up a blog, and to document my adventures in life through it.
