How can I improve my mental strength?
How can I improve my mental strength? I have just watched this amazing TED talk by Amy Morin about how to become mentally strong. Amy went through some very difficult times including losing both her mother and husband very young.
She explains how she feels that key bad habits cost us dearly by eating away at our mental strength. The three main destructive beliefs are:
1 – unhealthy beliefs about ourselves and the resulting self-pity
2 – unhealthy beliefs about others which cause us to give away our power
3 – unhealthy beliefs about the world which make us think we are owed something
During really painful periods in our life, our good habits aren’t enough. Destructive beliefs hold us back. So, as well as practicing good habits like gratitude, we need to give up resenting other people, or comparing ourselves to them. We need to become comfortable with experiencing our emotions, however painful they are. It is the only way to move on.
Other people cannot control how we feel, and we cannot control their behaviour. It is our own choices that hold us back. The only person we should compare ourself with is the person we were in the past. We should not expect life to be fair. Our world is what we make it, which means we can change it.
Making one small change is the start to changing our entire world. One small step to changing our bad mental habits is where it all starts. I love how simple this message is, and I intend to start working on my own unhealthy beliefs straight away!
Project 365
I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.
I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.
The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 214 days to go!
