How can I improve my focus? I have just watched this great TED talk by Dr. Marvin Chun about how we can help our brain focus on important tasks and avoid distractions.
Dr. Chun believes the big challenge that faces us is that there is too much information at our fingertips. Although it is a blessing, it makes it very hard to choose, and to know where to start.
We also constantly distract ourselves, and the lack of focus can be dangerous.
The overwhelming amount of information can make us less productive. If we try to multi-task, our brain has to work harder and our performance falls as we make mistakes.
Dr Chun offers us three tips to improve our focus:
1 – Simplify how much information we have to pay attention to. We don’t have the capacity to process so much information.
2 – Relax. Although some stress increases performance, too much decreases it, as we suffer from anxiety. Breathing exercises and being outside in green spaces can both help us to relax.
3 – Unitask. Multitasking makes us 30% slower and 30% less accurate, as our brain has to work harder.
They are simple tips which we can all incorporate into our lives to improve our focus and productivity!

I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.
The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 233 days to go!
