How can I enhance my creativity?
How can I enhance my creativity? I just watched this brilliant TED talk by Phil Davis about extreme creativity. He explains that there are many creativity tools we can use, like brainstorming sessions, six thinking hats, or random words.
As we leave childhood and become adults our creativity becomes blocked. Creativity tools give us stimuli which are designed to break existing patterns of thinking. This allows us to begin creative patterns of thinking. Existing routines are helpful for running our day-to-day life, but not for our creativity.
Phil feels we need extreme creativity to come up with solutions to the world’s extreme problems. Throughout history artists and musicians have used drugs or alcohol to enhance their creativity. In extreme danger or pain situations people are able to perform extraordinary feats. High fruit diets may increase creativity, but caffeine reduces it. Marijuana releases dopamine into the bloodstream but also causes a state of calmness.
We can also channel aggression into a more positive creative state. Happy people are more creative. Extreme relaxation also increases creativity, so depriving our senses (for example with a flotation tank) can be beneficial.
If we live on the edge, outside our comfort zone, it helps us to be more creative, which may allow us to come up with solutions to the world’s toughest problems.
Project 365
I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.
I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.
The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 204 days to go!
