Are you above the line or below the line?
Are you above the line or below the line? Let me explain the question in a bit more detail. It is asking whether you have a mindset of taking ownership for a situation (being above the line) or if your preference is to look for excuses or people to blame (being below the line).
Values
It can link quite nicely to self-analysis work looking at values. No-one can decide if your thoughts and actions are above or below the line better than yourself, but it does require you to assess yourself very honestly.
Growth or fixed mindset?
Above the line choices usually relate to having a growth mindset. In this scenario, you tend to look at issues in a more positive way, looking for solutions. It allows you to see possibilities and take action.
Below the line choices usually relate to having a fixed mindset. In this scenario, you tend to look at issues in a more negative way, doing nothing to resolve them. As you don’t feel in control of the situation, or responsible for the problem, you wait for someone else to fix it.
Outcome
The interesting thing to consider is that your mindset is solely responsible for whether you receive a positive or negative outcome to a particular issue. Assuming you have no control over the event itself, the only thing that you can affect is your response to it. Changing to a more positive, or growth mindset, will change the outcome for the better.
Having a positive mental attitude really can bring about big changes. Try seeing what happens if you decide to make a shift to being more above the line. The effects can be very powerful!
Project 365
I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.
I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.
The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 349 days to go!
Why not check in on a regular basis to see how I am progressing, and what I have discovered?
