Am I having a midlife crisis?

Am I having a midlife crisis? I love this TED talk by Pash Pashkow, in which he discusses the concept of the midlife crisis. By definition, it is a dip in a person’s satisfaction with their life and self-confidence that happens about halfway through our life expectancy.

Pash is a brand strategist, and he helps businesses to rebrand when they have an identity crisis.

He looks at questions like:

Who are we and what do we stand for?

What is it that makes us unique?

Who do we need to be talking to and what do we need to say?

We can use these same questions when we go through dips of our own as we go through the different phases of life. Other animals, including great apes, also experience these life dips, so we should come to view them as natural, expected phenomena. Eventually the dips end, and a person’s life satisfaction and self-confidence return.

What I love about this talk is the idea of viewing the dips as just a natural part of a wave pattern. They are a good time to reflect, and ask ourselves the questions above. We should stop seeing the midlife crisis as something negative, and view it as the opportunity that it really is!

Project 365

I set up this website after deciding that I want to build a more creative life for myself, so I can give up my job and be in control of my own destiny.

I have set myself a goal of publishing an article on my website every day this year, to document my journey from employment to self-employment.

The name I chose was Project 365 because I see this as a year that I have dedicated to learning and self-development, as I countdown to freedom. It started on 1st January 2021, so I have 236 days to go!

I have decided to set up a blog, and to document my adventures in life through it.
